United States intelligence agencies believe that the massive hacking attack on federal agencies in December was an attempt to obtain intelligence and "probably originated from Russia."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation( FBI), the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Agency (CISA) and the US Intelligence Community (ODNI) have admitted Russia's involvement in a hacker attack on US federal agencies. The conclusions are given in a joint statement of the special services.
"The source of the targeted sustained threat likely originates from Russia, is responsible for the vast majority or all of the recently discovered cyber attacks against both government and non — government networks," the text notes.
A special task force created to investigate the hacking believes that less than 10 government agencies and about 18 thousand users of the Orion program from Solar Winds in the public and private sectors were exposed to the attacks. The purpose of the hack, according to the intelligence services, was to collect intelligence.
