The suspects used the stolen personal data of users to commit cybercrimes.
In the UK, as part of the fight against cybercrime, 21 people were arrested who acquired access to data stolen as a result of hacking other websites on the now-defunct WeLeakInfo resource.
According to the National crime Agency (NCA) In the UK, the suspects used the stolen personal data of citizens to commit new cybercrime and fraud.
All those arrested are men aged between 18 and 38. Nine of them were arrested on suspicion of computer misuse, nine on fraud charges and three are under investigation. The NCA also seized more than 41,000 pounds in bitcoin from the arrested.
Recall that in January of this year, the FBI seized the domain WeLeakInfo.com for providing users with paid access to data leaked to the Network as a result of hacking. The operation was carried out jointly with the NCA, the Netherlands national Police Corps, the German Federal criminal police office (Bundeskriminalamt) and the police Service of Northern Ireland.
Launched in 2017, the service provided its users with a search engine to access personal information illegally obtained as a result of more than 10 thousand data leaks and containing more than 12 billion indexed stolen personal information, including names, email addresses, usernames, phone numbers and passwords for online accounts.
The subscription cost ranged from $2 to $75 and gave users unlimited access to the search engine and data for a limited period of time. Cheap subscriptions made the web site accessible even to novice hackers, allowing them to obtain huge amounts of data for just $2 a day and use stolen passwords to organize new attacks.
