Several domains linked to the pirate site Pirate Bay went public this month after their owner failed to renew their registrations. Piratebay.org sold at Dropcatch for $ 50,000 and is now pending auction on ThePiratebay.com.

In 2012, the site itself switched from its own domain ThePiratebay.org to ThePiratebay.se, fearing that the first one would be taken away from it by the US authorities. Later, when .se was threatened, the site had to change several more domains. The resource is now functioning with ThePiratebay.org.

The sold domain is registered to Pirate Bay co-founder Fredrik Neuja. However, for unknown reasons, it allowed Piratebay.org and ThePiratebay.com to expire.

For a BitTorrent tracker, selling these domains is not a problem. They were never used as the main site address.

However, this does not mean that domains are of no value to outsiders. Piratebay.org was bought by a bidder named clvrfls. Prior to that, the domain was owned by the Dropcatch.com service.

It is not yet clear what the new owner will do with the acquired domain. There is a stub on the site.

Other applicants for buying domains with history will soon have another chance. After ThePiratebay.com, ThePiratebay.net and Piratebay.net will be up for sale.

Meanwhile, anti-piracy fighters are trying to definethe real location of the operators of The Pirate Bay, to terminate the site completely. They try to organize searches through the site administrators of the VPN provider. It turned out that the Pirate Bay administrators allegedly used the services of the Swedish VPN provider OVPN to hide their real location. However, in court, the provider's representatives stated that they did not store any logs.

The Pirate Bay is considered the oldest BitTorrent tracker. This year he turned 16 years old.
