The program will be able to determine the age and the presence of mental illness in a person with an accuracy of 80%.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has introduced a program to search for serial criminals, developed on the basis of artificial intelligence. This was reported to Izvestia by the head of the Research Institute of Criminalistics of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexei Bessonov.
According to Bessonov, experts have developed an algorithm that makes it possible to compose a search portrait of a criminal. The table contains data from the inspection of the scene, characteristics of the victim and a description of the crime (type of attack, weapon, etc.). The software analyzes and offers the most accurate portrait of the criminal in a couple of minutes. The age of an attacker can be determined with an accuracy of 80%, and the presence of mental illness - with an accuracy of 81.5%.
“With approximately the same probability (82%) it is possible to find out whether the attacker was convicted. We can say more clearly whether the maniac moved by car or on foot (the error is only 10%). And we also establish with 96% accuracy whether he knew the victim or not, which is important for further investigation, ”Bessonov said.
It took three years to develop the software and test it. As noted by Bessonov, at present, specialists from the Research Institute of Criminalistics of the Investigative Committee are developing another unique program that allows to determine, with an accuracy of a kilometer, how far the suspect lives from the crime scene.
