The ransomware demanded $5 million from TJRS for data recovery.
The extortionist group REvil attacked the network of the judicial system of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, encrypting files on computers, which led to the suspension of the courts.
The attack occurred on April 28 this year. In a message on Twitter, representatives of the Tribunal de Justiça do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (TJRS) notified about the incident and advised "internal users not to use remote access to the computer and not to log in to computers on the TJRS network."
According to Bleeping Computer, the ransomware demanded $5 million for data recovery. It is not yet known whether negotiations are underway with the attackers.
Earlier, the group published on its website in the darknet a number of screenshots of documents allegedly stolen from one of the leading Japanese construction companies Kajima Construction Corporation, the extortionists offered the company to buy the data before May 1 of this year.
