As a result of the cyberattack, the credentials of almost 300 thousand forum participants were compromised.
A Carding Mafia forum linked to the purchase and sale of stolen financial information and credit card data has been hacked. According to the service for checking compromised data Have I Been Pwned, as a result of the attack, almost 300 thousand accounts of forum participants were compromised.
The compromised information included the email addresses, IP addresses, usernames, and password hashes of 297,744 users. At the time of writing, there were no warnings about the data leak on the Carding Mafia forum and its public Telegram channel.
The founder of Have I Been Pwned, Troy Hunt, confirmed to Motherboard that the hacked database is legitimate. Hunt also found the email addresses of Mailinator users in the database. Hunt checked the compromised email addresses using the "Forgot password" function, and found out that the data is recognized as valid. Usually, Mailinator email addresses are created for a single purpose and are not reused. The fact that the addresses are contained in the data dump and are also confirmed by the forum suggests the legitimacy of the information.
Experts of the publication also found on another hacker forum offered free data, allegedly stolen from the Carding Mafia in January of this year.
This is not the first time in the last month that hacker forums have become victims of hacking. Recall that in early March, the cybercrime forum Maza (also known as Mazafaka) was the victim of a data leak, as a result of which the information of its users was compromised.
